Batman Sample Pages

Quick post showing three Batman sample pages I did for my portfolio while at school. Still tightening up and fixing things here and there, so I'll probably post up some updates. The pages were from an R.I.P. script by Grant Morrison. Very cool story (though I know there's haters out there - please, don't come in here and shit on my parade) so it was really fun reading through one of the scripts, with all the additional info Grant puts in. Bola #1 Cover Process

Here's a gimmick comic book cover I made for one of my assignments at the Kubert School. I was pretty happy with the end result. The idea for the cover was simple: Have the duo of Bola and Kid Sling prepare to bust into the doors of nightclub Club Chevon to take down the Great He-Goat. And I wanted the doors on the cover to open up, and have He-Goat frantically running out.

First, the sketches:



Here's the inks for both images:





Next I colored them both:




Then I spent a headache inducing amount of time cutting and pasting each thing in photoshop to create the pieces as I had to print them in order to have the doors open, and have the He-Goat underneath. Eventually it all worked out to be like this:



Overall, a fun project!

Bola - The Beginning!

Here! The very first appearance of the original Bola and his trusty sidekick, Kid Sling, as they face one of their illustrative villains, The Great He-Goat! There's a ton more planned for this guy, whether it's wanted or not. Anyway, these are my Bola Pages 1-5 for Joe Kubert's class - Pencils and Inks by me. Bola is my original character that I'm using for any assignment i possibly can and also the book I'm working on with a friend called Vitruvian Underground.

And here's some of the character sheets we had to come up with, using three different styles for hypothetical animated, realistic, and comic book versions.

OOooooOOOooO.

So here's my blog, established about 4 years ago, and never updated! Huzzah!

Alright, down to business. I illustrate. I go to the Joe Kubert School, the most bad-ass school ever. I will do whatever possible to ensure I work in comics because I love comic books.

I'll probably use this blog to talk about the different projects I'm working on and to talk about the artists I love. I've never really been open online about my goings on, but I was always interested in starting, so we'll see if this takes flight.

So school work....

You will see a lot more of this guy, not only for school but a project near and dear to me that I've been cooking up with my good buddy Ramon Villalobos. I love the stuff, and I really hope everyone else digs it to some degree.
